EC.DATA Reaches 45 Countries: Reflections on Building a Global Energy Platform
When we launched EC.DATA, our first customer was a single building in Spain. Today, EC.DATA-connected devices operate in 45 countries across 6 continents. Here's what that journey has taught us.

When we launched EC.DATA, our first customer was a single building in Spain. A small commercial facility that needed to understand its electricity consumption.
Today, EC.DATA-connected devices operate in 45 countries across 6 continents. Our partners have deployed the platform in everything from single-site retailers in Latin America to industrial complexes in Europe and data centers in Southeast Asia.
That growth has taught us things no business school could.
What Scales and What Doesn't
The EC.DATA platform was designed to be universally applicable — energy monitoring, after all, works the same way whether you're in Madrid or Kuala Lumpur. Watts are watts. Kilowatt-hours are kilowatt-hours. Anomalies are anomalies.
What doesn't scale automatically is the local context. Electricity tariff structures vary enormously by country. Regulatory requirements differ across jurisdictions. Cultural expectations around data privacy, reporting formats, and commercial relationships are genuinely different in different regions.
Building a global platform required us to make the core analytics engine universal while making the local context layer infinitely configurable. Our partner network — energy service companies and system integrators with deep local market knowledge — fills the gap that a global platform cannot fill alone.
The Partner Model
EC.DATA operates as a B2B2C platform — we serve end customers through local partners who understand their markets. This model has proven effective not just commercially but in terms of solution quality. Our partners know their customers in ways that we, as a platform company headquartered in Europe, cannot match.
What's Next
Our focus over the next 18 months is threefold: deepening our AI capabilities through the GAIA module, expanding our IoT sensor catalog to cover new measurement categories, and supporting our partner network as they grow their EC.DATA practices.
45 countries is not the destination. It's the foundation.
