EC.DATA's Investment in IoT Hardware: Why We Built Our Own Sensor Catalog
Building a sensor catalog was not in our original roadmap. Our customers taught us why we needed one — and why offering curated, pre-validated hardware alongside our software is a competitive differentiator.

When we launched EC.DATA, we were a software company. We built an analytics platform that could integrate with any compatible meter or sensor through standard industrial protocols.
That approach was right for enterprise customers who already had established hardware preferences and IT infrastructure to manage integrations.
It was the wrong approach for the customers we increasingly serve: small and mid-sized businesses, multi-site operators, and growing companies deploying energy monitoring for the first time.
What Customers Actually Need
First-time deployers don't want to research compatible meters, evaluate protocol support, and troubleshoot integration issues. They want to plug in and go. They want hardware that is known to work with EC.DATA, delivered with configuration already complete.
Our customers told us this repeatedly. For two years, we heard variations of the same message: "We trust your software. Tell us what hardware to buy."
Building the EC.DATA Sensor Catalog
We listened. EC.DATA now maintains a curated catalog of pre-validated meters, sensors, and gateways that are tested and certified for seamless integration with our platform.
The catalog includes:
**Power meters** — Single and three-phase energy meters in revenue-grade and monitoring-grade versions, supporting Modbus and Ethernet communication.
**LoRaWAN sensors** — Temperature, humidity, pressure, CO₂, occupancy, vibration, and water flow sensors from selected manufacturers, pre-configured for EC.DATA's network server.
**IoT gateways** — LoRaWAN and Modbus gateways that bridge field devices to EC.DATA's cloud platform.
**Power quality analyzers** — Advanced meters for facilities requiring harmonic and transient monitoring.
The Customer Experience Improvement
Customers who deploy from the EC.DATA catalog experience dramatically faster time-to-insight. Instead of weeks of integration work, they see live data within hours of installation.
Hardware is not our primary business. Customer success is. And curated hardware makes our customers more successful. That's why we built the catalog.
