Net zero energy buildings are increasingly a regulatory requirement rather than an aspiration. The European Union, the UK, and many other jurisdictions have established mandatory energy performance standards for commercial buildings. Many large corporations have established their own net zero commitments that apply to their real estate portfolios.
The roadmap from high-consuming building to net zero is clear conceptually. The execution requires data, measurement, and sustained operational commitment.
The Net Zero Building Roadmap
**Phase 1: Measure and Baseline** Before you can reduce, you must measure. Establishing an accurate energy baseline — by fuel type, by equipment category, by building — is the prerequisite for everything that follows. EC.DATA provides this baseline through continuous metering and monitoring.
