A building energy digital twin is a physics-based model of a building's thermal, electrical, and mechanical systems. The model incorporates the building's physical characteristics — geometry, insulation, glazing, equipment specifications — alongside real-time operational data from sensors and meters.

This combination allows the model to simulate building behavior under conditions that haven't occurred yet — evaluating the energy impact of setpoint changes, equipment upgrades, or operational schedule modifications before they're implemented.
