Why We Built EC.DATA: The Origin Story of an Energy Intelligence Platform
EC.DATA exists because we watched smart, capable businesses make energy decisions without the data they needed to make them well. That frustration became a mission — and a platform.

People often ask me when the idea for EC.DATA came from. The honest answer is that it didn't come from a single moment — it came from accumulating frustration.
Before founding EC.DATA, my co-founders and I spent years working with commercial and industrial clients on operational efficiency projects. We saw the same problem repeatedly: organizations were spending enormous amounts on energy with almost no data about where that energy was going.
We would conduct energy assessments and discover obvious, expensive problems — refrigeration systems running at full power through the night, HVAC units fighting each other in adjacent zones, motors consuming electricity at full load while sitting idle.
Every time we found these problems, the client response was the same: "Why didn't we know about this?"
The answer was always the same too: because nobody was watching.
The Monitoring Gap
Energy monitoring technology existed. Power meters and sensor networks were commercially available. Cloud computing had made centralized data platforms economical. The technical pieces were all there.
What was missing was a platform that assembled those pieces into something that a non-technical facility manager could actually use. Something that collected the data automatically, identified the problems intelligently, and communicated the findings clearly.
That was the product we needed. When we couldn't find it, we decided to build it.
What EC.DATA Is For
EC.DATA is for every organization that is spending money on energy without knowing whether that money is being spent wisely.
It's for the retail chain manager who suspects their refrigeration costs are too high but has no data to investigate. It's for the building owner who wants to reduce energy costs without conducting expensive audits. It's for the sustainability manager who needs to report carbon emissions but can't get reliable data from their facilities.
It's for the organizations that know they should be managing energy better but have lacked the tools to do so.
We built EC.DATA to be those tools. That mission hasn't changed since the day we started.
